BPS administrator hired for new position

Filed Under: administrator, Board for Parish Services, BPS

Rev. Bruce Becker, administrator of WELS Board for Parish Services (BPS), announced today he is resigning his call effective Mar. 15 to take a position with Time of Grace Ministries based in Milwaukee, Wis.

Becker, who has served as BPS administrator for 14 years, has been hired for a newly established position responsible for managing the day-to-day ministry and staff at Time of Grace and for planning the ministry's future direction.

In an e-mail to his board members and members of the Synodical Council, Becker says the hardest part of his decision is leaving the BPS family of board members, administrators, and staff members. "You are such a blessing to this church body in so many ways," Becker says. "It has truly been a privilege to serve with you."

In reaction to Becker's announcement, WELS President Rev. Mark Schroeder commented: "Bruce has been a visible and important part of the work of the synod over the last fourteen years. We are grateful for his faithful service, and we ask God's blessings on him and his family as he begins his new endeavor."

The future of the BPS administrator position remains uncertain. The Board for Parish Services will be evaluating the position in its development of the budget for the next two years. In addition, recommendations from the Ad Hoc Commission in its report to the upcoming synod convention will also address the future structure of the Board for Parish Services and its commissions.

Becker says these pending discussions were not the prime factor in his decision—rather he sees the Lord placing a new opportunity before him at Time of Grace. "This ministry has only one purpose and that is to share the good news of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible through the most advanced technology available," he says. "What could be more exciting than having the opportunity to share Jesus with millions of people?"

Time of Grace was founded in 2001 by a group of WELS members. Its centerpiece is a 30-minute weekly television program broadcast in more than 30 cities across the United States and to troops stationed around the world on the American Forces Network.
