Total gifts received for the synod's Year of Jubilee offering as of Jan. 26 exceed $2.6 million. The goal of the offering, authorized by the 2007 synod convention, is to reduce or eliminate the synod's $22.4 million debt and free up as much as $2.7 million each year for other ministry.
The gifts from both individuals and congregations, combined with budgeted payments on principal since July 1, 2007, have reduced the debt to $16.2 million.
While the Year of Jubilee celebration was designed to be observed in congregations primarily in November and December 2008, congregations still have the opportunity to participate between now and the synod convention at the end of July. Worship resources are available online. Individuals can also give gifts online.
