WELS families still in Cameroon following violent riots, shootings

Breaking news

Prayers are requested for two WELS pastors, their families, and those they serve in Cameroon, Africa, as the country undergoes the worst violence it has seen in 15 years. At least 17 people are reported killed.

Rev. Dan Myers, missionary to Cameroon, reports that he and his family are safe following the riots and shootings that broke out in the past days. The violence was sparked by price hikes and a government proposal to eliminate term limits for the president.

Board for World Missions Africa Committee liaison Rev. Ron Uhlhorn and his wife, Kay, who are with the Myers in the city of Kumba, were on a field visit when the riots broke out. They were detained in Cameroon and hope to leave early next week. Myers, his wife, Peggy, and their daughter, Kara, will stay in Cameroon unless conditions worsen.

Additional details will be provided in Monday's edition of "Together."
