LPS calls new president
On Feb. 10, the governing board of Luther Preparatory School (LPS) in Watertown, Wis., called Rev. Matthew Crass to be the school's next president. Crass was called after Rev. Duane Rodewald, pastor at Abiding Peace, Simpsonville, S.C., returned the call on Feb. 4.
Crass currently serves as dean of students at LPS and has been in this position for the past 10 years. Crass says he is currently in the process of gathering information about the call. "I know [former LPS President] Mark Schroeder, I worked with him for all those years, so he's at my disposal to ask questions like, 'What does a president of a prep school do?' I've already spoken with Paul Prange a little bit, too—he's the prep school president at Michigan Lutheran Seminary [in Saginaw]. There are a lot of good resources out there."
Prior to serving at LPS, Crass served as pastor at St. Peter, Weyauwega, Wis.; graduate assistant to the district president at Salem, Owosso, Mich.; and tutor at Martin Luther Prep School, Prairie Du Chien, Wis.
This is the fourth call issued to fill the vacancy left by Rev. Mark Schroeder, who was elected WELS president at the 2007 convention. Prior to Rodewald, Rev. Kenneth Brokmeier, chairman of the LPS governing board, and Rev. Paul Zell, professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, declined calls for the president position.
